Africanized Honey Bees split their colonies frequently because they reproduce at a much faster rate than their European cousins. We estimate that Africanized strains may divide their colonies as much as six times a year. This means swarms and new colonies show up much more frequently than a decade ago.
The news media has hyped Bee attacks into a frenzy. All bee colonies can be dangerous. Please call a professional if a swarm or colony shows up near you. Bees will generally not attack unless they are provoked to defend their colony. This can include loud noises and vibrations, for example a lawnmower.
